Exam-of-the-Day

FST4102 - Advanced Food Processing.

Submitted the hardbound thesis for FYP. =)

Played pool with Big Grace and Wei Wei after the paper. Gosh, haven't touched the cue in such a long time. Pool anyone?

Dinnered at NYDC with HY today! Ordered the Green Monster drink! How apt! LOL. It had a hint of lychee and a red cherry in it. Hmmm.

Exam-of-the-Day

FST4202 - Nutritional Biochemistry.

I am so screwed.

Slacking-of-the-Day

Hung out with HY at a heartlander place (AMK) this evening. Hmm. Recently been having a lot of observations and stuff but no time to think in depth about them and pen them down. Oh well. Short and sweet.

Dinner-of-the-Day

Cooked dinner this evening and ate with my father. I study so much about nutrition and diseases so decided to be a bit healthier. The food outside is usually extremely oily! Ate fish today to make me a bit smarter! Hehe. *thinking of post-exam activities* Hmm.

Movie-of-the-Day

Was getting bored of books so headed out for a movie with HY! Watched "Revolutionary Road" which is yet another heavy heart movie.. And that's a hat-trick! Suddenly realized I need to shop for some rather essential items. Got an interview bag this evening! Tsk. I feel like a girl. Being a girl is mah fan.

I lost my Daniel Yam shawl. CRAP. I don't think I gave it away in the midst of moving. It's so darn $$$!!! GRRR. Maybe mixed up with mum's clothes or something. AIYA. GRRRR. Hate losing things. Don't have a terribly good memory for tracing these kinda girly items. I lost my damn expensive skirt from Taka too.. AIYA!!!!! And clothes are EXHORBITANT (at least at Taka anyway). TSK. So many events coming up....... which requires me to erm.. be a girl.

Trivia-of-the-Day

It's not part of the syllabus but anyway...

How is cotton candy made?
  • Sugar is heated until it melts
  • As the head of the machine spins, liquid sugar is forced through tiny holes
  • The thin threads of sugar cool and re-solidify when they come into contact with air
  • COTTON CANDY!

Ok, this is part of the syllabus.. Not that it matters to you!

Red wine, red wine, red wine.... What I don't understand is why can't we just eat red grapes..? Maybe we can. If my calculations are accurate, we can actually get more resveratrol out of grapes. So.. why the red wine hype? Alcohol enhances its action? Oh well, it's not like I hate red wine anyway! Just had a small glass and that's all for the evening.

Alcohol can damage your liver which metabolizes insulin.. This increases your plasma levels of insulin.. then YOU BECOME FAT (lazy to explain the entire mechanism.. Basically, STOP ALCOHOLISM).

Dinner-of-the-Day

Had dinner at Compasspoint Sakura with HY! Managed to settle the DVD for our Hons Dissertation. One more step to ENDING FYP. Yay.

"We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves. The more restricted our society and work become, the more necessary it will be to find some outlet for this craving for freedom. No one can say, 'You must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that.' The human spirit is indomitable." -Roger Bannister

Jog-of-the-Day

Hairless trees. Gloomy.

This is what my former home will become.

Now this is rare - a defective coke can.

Started the day early and attempted to watch sunrise with HY but.. it RAINED. Drove around for a bit then headed to Siglap for breakfast! Nice food!

Went to jog with pQ today and am amazed that I managed to drag her for a jog! We haven't ran together at least for a year. Gosh, she's real lazy. I think we only jogged 1km and the pace was 1/2 as fast as yesterday. It's like a recovery jog! TSK TSK. Non-runners faster than her!!!

Cooked dinner with pQ this evening. It was a day of successful experimentation (especially the meat) but there was too much food ($4.75 inclusive of dessert for the 2 of us.. really cheap)!

Evening-of-the-Day

Went jogging with HJ at Sembawang and saw a cute grey dog. It's supposed to be white! After that, I headed to Seletar Reservoir while waiting for How pQ to end her tuition (only met her at 930pm in the end). Dinnered with her and Ling Ling at Yishun then headed to Sunplaza Mc's for dessert!

Party-of-the-Day

Celebrated Tiffy's 5th birthday at my bro's place!

After that, headed out with HY! Watched a heavy hearted movie "Crossing Over". Hmm. After that, we ran the Southern Ridges from Mount Faber to NUS! First time I ran within the compound of NUS! Xiong man.. The route is damn tiring.. steps and slopes! Then came dinner at Swensens! Ate lamb with mint sauce (love it) and had a banana split to complete the meal! (",)

Mugging-of-the-Day

Had AWC mugging session in school today! Too much snacks! Love the Vitasoy though! Yawnz.. Tired tired!

Friday, April 17, 2009

Shopping-of-the-Day

Went shopping for snacks with CPF near HTNS! Wah, walking with a load in the sun is CRAZY! SUPER HOT DAY!!! DRENCHED.

Food-of-the-Day

Had presentations for FST4202 from 9am to 3pm! We kinda made our lecturer buy us lunch! Ordered pizza, meatballs, drumlets and Pepsi from Pizza Hut! Brought down ice, rum, tequila and whiskey but we mainly took rum! PARTY! Everyone's in the party mood!!!

In the evening, met HY for a GOOD DINNER! Ate at Carnivore! Been wanting to eat there for a long time but couldn't really eat too much! Stomach shrank!!!

Presentation-of-the-Day

FYP Presentation lasted 25min for me! It was supposed to be a max of 10min and 5min for Q&A leading to a total of 15min! I presented for about 8min and was questioned to a total time of 25min. Should be quite ok though! DONE.

Stayed over at HY's (FST) hall this evening! Had fun camping! =) Was too lazy to travel home and back to NUS again!

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Work-of-the-Day

Spent the day preparing for my FYP presentation! Hmm. Almost there!

Monday, April 13, 2009

Gear-of-the-Day

Went out with pQ this afternoon! Headed to The Cathay and had lunch at Aston's followed by a movie at The Picturehouse. Watched "Battle in Seattle" which is basically a movie from the protestors' point of view. Interesting.

Met my brother, Justin, in the evening and bought running gear! Tights and socks. Even socks nowadays seem quite high tech. The socks are left and right-foot specific! Had dinner at Jack's place and I ate:
  • French Onion Soup
  • Escargot
  • Venison and Crayfish
  • Honeydew juice

Sunday, April 12, 2009

Shopping-of-the-Day

Went shopping with Sandra today. Now, that's a rare occasion! Decided to get a running watch! Been wanting to get a new Timex but didn't since it's a waste of money to get a Timex if I wasn't running anymore. Then came the marathon! Hehe. The Timex I saw in Canada was $60! But didn't get it due to the aforementioned reasons.

After that, had dinner with this tall, not dark, handsome (?) man at Golden Mile Complex!

Anyway, QL sent me this really cool video link!!! Check THIS out:

Event-of-the-Day

Oh, Master Crab just opened at the kopitiam opposite my place! I wonder if it's as nice as the one I ate that day! Only one way to find out..

Anyway, I love Easter! The pinnacle of Christian belief! Was looking forward to mass the entire day! The mass at St Anne's is quite cool.. there's procession! And it's the only time you get locked out of church and see the entire place in darkness. And of course, light a candle whereby the hundreds of flickering flames originated from a single source. There were quite a few stars out tonight as well and it was almost a full moon! I love eating after that as well! Bought home lamp chops from the coffeeshop near my place and am now drinking another type of Belgian beer (St Feuillien)! It's the Hoe Garden kind. Quite nice!

Like a rose trampled on the ground
You took the fall
And thought of me
Above all...
My Lord and my God.

Hmm-of-the-Day

Ok, I think many of you would know this by now.. But ANYWAY, today, I'm going to talk about the things above us...

The Sky is blue...
This is due to Rayleigh scattering of the small particles of gas in the atmosphere. This gives the sky a blue appearance.

At Sunrise and Sunset...
Also due to Rayleigh scattering. The sun is low in the horizon and light has to pass through a denser layer of atmosphere whereby more blue light is scattered, leaving the reddish wavelength to reach our eyes.

Clouds...
Due to Tyndall scattering whereby with this phenomenon, the size particles are larger and affects all wavelengths equally... Hence, they're white!

The first sound of thunder occured at 3pm (the start of mass) soon accompanied by rain. It always rains during the Good Friday mass! The rain stopped after mass so I could cycle back home in dry-comfort!

Trivia-of-the-Day

Did I ever mention about the Tears of Wine on my blog? Anyway, it's due to the Gibb's Marangoni effect. Quoting from my notes.. Ethanol evaporates more rapidly than water. As ethanol evaporates, the effect of gravity becomes significant. The surface tension is lowered such that water runs back down the glass in rivulets. The tears of wine are observable due to the difference in the way alcohol and water refract light.

Anyhow, if you don't understand any of that... Just know that the longer the tears of wine take to run back down, the higher the alcohol content!

Party-of-the-Day

Had the monthly birthday celebrations in FST! As always, I love the food. Anyway, what's cool with this one was that.. THERE WAS WII!!!!! Haha. We shifted the party to the conference room to accommodate that. Nice to play on the big screen! WII Party!!!

Yolks-of-the-Day

Twin yolks! How cool is that! Quite rare I suppose or at least I've only seen it a couple of times in this life and I think the last time was when I was in primary school! Lol. Cute.

Apple-of-the-Day

I wonder how they 'printed' this onto the apple! It seems to de-pigment the 'printed' areas. It's smooth and feels very much part of the apple. It's skin-deep and can be eaten down. Weird. Some enzyme treatment? I should ask my prof!

Beer-of-the-Day

Drank some red/white wine yesterday with Ruiz and Poh! The snacks were great:
  • Ham
  • Fries
  • BBQ Chicken
  • DURIAN
Ate so much! Couldn't finish! Drank relatively little compared to other times!

Anyway, this evening, I would like to introduce you to Belgian beer, Belle-Vue. This beer is extremely fruity (raspberry) and light! About 2% alcohol only I think! DAMN NICE! Love!! Jan & Pat brought some back from Belgium. Haven't tried the others!

Song-of-the-Day

Chanced upon this song last night!

Frozen by Madonna

You only see what your eyes want to see
How can life be what you want it to be
You're frozen
When your heart's not open

You're so consumed with how much you get
You waste your time with hate and regret
You're broken
When your heart's not open

Mmmmmm, if I could melt your heart
Mmmmmm, we'd never be apart
Mmmmmm, give yourself to me
Mmmmmm, you hold the key

Now there's no point in placing the blame
And you should know I suffer the same
If I lose you
My heart will be broken

Love is a bird, she needs to fly
Let all the hurt inside of you die
You're frozen
When your heart's not open

Mmmmmm, if I could melt your heart
Mmmmmm, we'd never be apart
Mmmmmm, give yourself to me
Mmmmmm, you hold the key

You only see what your eyes want to see
How can life be what you want it to be
You're frozen
When your heart's not open

Mmmmmm, if I could melt your heart
Mmmmmm, we'd never be apart
Mmmmmm, give yourself to me
Mmmmmm, you hold the key

Mmmmmm, if I could melt your heart
Mmmmmm, we'd never be apart
Mmmmmm, give yourself to me
Mmmmmm, you hold the key

If I could melt your heart

He - Part 8

WAKE UP WAKE UP!!! He finally gave in to the calling from afar and started to stir. He awoke from a series of dreams. The kind of dreams that when you were awaken in the middle of them, you'd want to jump right back in. This time, he reminded himself that it was just a dream and the only way for it to manifest was that if he woke up and took control. He sat up thinking about the reasons why he can't in life. People. Circumstance. His life was an excuse. He never expected that anything good would come his way. He never felt that anything good should come his way. And for that, he dug a pit of excuses, afraid to succeed.

Then he saw how his life fell into place. How every small decision, people close to him, and those who weren’t so close influenced his life. The initial outcome was always negative. Antagonistic. The final outcome, which was what mattered, was always positive. Should anything have differed, his life would have taken an entirely different angle. Everything geared him towards success but he never took the chance. Hopes and aspirations overshadowed by worries and fears. Time was running out. Every minute that fell to the ground turned to blood. Each decision life-changing. He was made with purpose. He was given ability to fulfill his purpose, yet he always lacked the attitude.

For a moment, he was like the living-dead, walking through life without a purpose. Procrastination and working with lifeless passion. Now, with a destination, determination filled his veins.

Opportunity. One door slammed and he never thought to reach for the knob to open it once again. A hard worker is praised. A passionate one, envied. And as such, he trusted his longing to open the eyes of others.

How do you reach a destination if you keep running away from it? Simple logic but it never hit him. He was in a constant state of dreaming so logic didn’t come into play. He just needed a vision of his destiny then he’d see the ground in constant motion beneath his feet. That first step of realization and of desire the longest stride, breaking into a run and finally, in flight until he landed on eternity. He wasn’t going to try. He was going to get it done.

He was going to dissect that which left him in awe. It was time for surreality to transpire into reality.

Fool-of-the-Day

Happy April Fools' Day!!! (",)

Had lunch at Sembawang SC this afternoon with HY! Headed to HTNS to do my lab report! I like the Reading Room there! If you need wireless@SG, chairs, tables and power points.. they have it! Just head up the spiral staircase from the main lobby! Rather conducive for doing work! Trained a bit today! Nice! Not too bad! =)

Hmm.. is my voice really that distinctive?? The way I talk? Heh, why bother!
