KTV-of-the-Day

Went for KTV with some shooters in the evening. Party World has a lot of English songs! Anyway, I think I can read a little more Chinese now.

Disappointment - This results due to a certain expectation of how the world, people or things should be, whereby there exists an inaccurate perspective of reality. The word "disappointment" often puts the receiving party on a guilt trip when it is actually our unrealistic demands that have caused the emotion. It is better to admit that we were disillusioned.

Disappointment also implies a sense of hopelessness whereby you have succumbed yourself to the fate of external factors and was therefore disappointed. As for disillusionment, you would be able to recognize that you have created a false impression of reality and would then be able to adapt to reality.

"I was disillusioned."

"You disappointed me."

Which one makes you feel worse? I guess expressing disappointment tends to shift the blame to others whereas disillusionment makes us take responsibility for misinterpreting reality. The use of "disappointment" makes the receiving party feel inadequate, ashamed, unworthy, etc. The effects are even more devastating as we usually use it on those we love the most. It is the people that are closest to us that we set such expectations upon.

‘Thoughtless words can wound as deeply as any sword, but wisely spoken words can heal.’ (Proverbs 12:18)

一场欢喜,一场空。

Do we change the world?
Or does the world change us?
